Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival

The Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival is the flagship event of the Maryland Sheep Breeders Association. Beginning with the first Festival in 1974, the Festival has provided a celebration of the incredible creature that is the sheep.

The Festival both showcases, and provides a marketplace for, the amazing range of products, services, activities, skills and artistry that both support and reflect the inspiring variety of what sheep have to offer. Festival attendees, which number in the tens of thousands, range from those who already love sheep -- farmers, shepherds, spinners, knitters, dyers, artists, chefs, and animal lovers -- to those who are curious about learning more.

With hundreds of sheep representing over 40 breeds on display in the Breed Display barn, the show rings and auction, as well as sheepdog herding demonstrations, a sheep-to-shawl competition, and seminars and classes for shepherds, fiber enthusiasts, and children, educational opportunities abound. Vendor booths and a highly successful Fleece Show & Sale allow producers from Maryland and beyond to sell their wares. All of this serves to reinforce the Association's mission of promoting the local lamb and wool industry, and increasing public knowledge of the healthful and useful qualities of lamb and wool.
